Quick Tips For Enhancing the Equity of Your Home

Remove Clutter

The hardest thing to do is de-clutter your home because you are emotionally attached to your belongings, however, after years of living in your home, clutter collects in a way that it may not be noticeable to you.  It does, however, affect the way buyers see your home.  Open space is the goal here so a buyer can visualize their belongings in your home and not get caught up in your “stuff” instead of focusing on the fine features of your home.  Be honest with yourself and clean:

Clean & Make Your Home Sparkle

  • Wash windows inside and out
  • Clean exterior and sidewalks
  • Clean shelves, countertops, remove excess furniture and “stuff”
  • Caulk tubs, showers and sinks if needed
  • Polish chrome faucets and mirrors
  • Clean or paint dirty or scuffed up walls and doors
  • Clean off refrigerator of magnets, photos, etc.
  • Clean floors – remove carpet stains and vacuum often
  • Bleach any discolored grout
  • Scrub bathrooms – sinks, bathtubs, toilets
  • Remove any unpleasant smells

Check Outside Curb Appeal

  • Remove weeds
  • Keep lawn mowed
  • Plant fresh plants – pretty colored flowers
  • Trim bushes and shrubs
  • Paint or touch-up as needed

Repairs

  • Patch any holes in walls
  • Fix leaky faucets
  • Fix doors that don’t close properly
  • Fix electric outlets and light switches that don’t work
  • Replace light bulbs
  • Replace broken or missing screens
  • Replace broken tiles

Truly scrutinize your home.  From the outside of your home does it welcome you?  Is it appealing from the street?  How is the furniture arranged?  Are the rooms open and airy and free of clutter?  Take a step back and look at your home with a different approach so that you can envision: How will my home look to a buyer?
